Dolcetto d'Alba D.O.C. Madonna di Como
Growing location
An outlying district of the town of Alba, “Madonna Como” is a prime site for the growing of the dolcetto variety, and this steeply-sloping vineyard featuring sandy, loamy limestone soil with good drainage produces a warm wine with good body and considerable cellar life.
Year of planting: 1970
Wine-making process
Fermentation on the skins, with a submerged cap and daily pumping over of the must; drawing off of the wine after 7-8 days of maceration; after the malolactic fermentation, the wine stays in stainless steel until the following spring, when it is bottled for release in June. In the glass the wine shows all the opulence of its origins, matched by a rich, intense bouquet.
Tasting notes
Very deep, vivid garnet red, with clear purplish nuances; clean, expansive, intense nose, with hints of cherries, blackberries, roses and cinnamon; slightly dry, warm, round, full taste which is nice and long on the finish.
